Richard ColfaxOperating as a consultant, trainer and teacher in various multicultural environments throughout his career, Dr. Richard S. Colfax has also served as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt professional and a Six Sigma Black Belt professional. He has excelled as the senior human resources consultant, general manager and operations manager of Colfax Inc., since 2004, where he provides international business consulting services, facilitation and mediation services, and develops and delivers international human resources systems for both public and private entities. Furthermore, he has been a senior partner and consultant for Allied Business Consultants Inc., since 2014. Dr. Colfax has additionally contributed to the University of Guam (UOG) in Mangilao since 1994, where he has since become a professor of human resource management and management in the School of Business and Public Administration and a graduate faculty coordinator on campus.

Always seeking opportunities to continue learning, Dr. Colfax initially graduated with a Bachelor of Science in economics and comparative literature from Sophia University in Tokyo in 1976. He subsequently earned a Master of Arts in human resource leadership from Azusa Pacific University in California in 1986. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Colfax enrolled at the Fielding Institute in California, obtaining a Master of Arts in human development and a PhD in human and organizational systems in 1992 and 1993, respectively.

Continuing his international academic efforts, Dr. Colfax matriculated at the University of Guam, where he attained a Master of Business Administration in 2013 and a Master of Public Administration in 2015. He also holds multiple U.S. and international human resources and management certifications, including a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR), a Senior Professional in Human Resources International (SPHRi), a Certified Manager (CM), a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and a Human Resource Management Professional (HRMP). Likewise, Dr. Colfax is professionally certified in risk and crisis management from the Emergency Management Institute through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Pacific Asia Travel Association.

In light of his exceptional undertakings throughout his career, Dr. Colfax, as an advisor, guided the University of Guam’s SHRM student chapter to 22 consecutive Superior Merit Awards and three Outstanding Chapter Awards from the Society for Human Resource Management from 1998 to 2019. The society also honored him with a Foundation Advisor Impact Award in 2019. He has received several accolades from UOG as well, including a Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from School of Business and Public Administration in 2013, and an All-Star Award from the vice president of student affairs from 1998 to 2000. He was also named one of only 54 Case-Carnegie Institute’s “Carnegie Professor of the Year” for 1999 from Guam. In recognition of his support and guidance of the Pohnpei students at the University, Dr. Colfax was named a “Lepen Tolen-U” or Honorary Chief of Tolen U in Kichi Territory of Pohnpei State in the Federated States of Micronesia by the Traditional Chief of Kichi Territory of Pohnpei in 2005.
